Treasurer & Site Manager - John Rafferty - EX 3LI

I am my Company's
(Red Point Limited), Company Secretary.
For many years, I was the Treasurer of the local Area Branch of an organisation known as RAYNET (Radio Amateurs Emergency Network), who are on daily call by any and all, of the country's Emergency Services (including the Armed Forces), to supply Emergency Radio Communications, in the event of disaster or other similar emergencies.

I am on the standing Committee of a West Midlands based, fire related association DSBFPA (Dudley, Sandwell and Birmingham Fire Protection Association), running with close ties, to elements of the West Midlands Fire Service.

Service 1976-2000, WOII on retirement.

Featured in two historical occasions in the life of The Light Infantry as follows:
Employed as a training Corporal in the last adult platoon to Pass Out of the Light Infantry Depot, Copthorne Barracks in Shrewsbury, before moving to the new Light Division Depot in Sir John Moore Barracks in Winchester.

I was 15 Platoon Commander with D Company 2nd Bn The Light Infantry attached to the King's Own Border Regiment battle group deployed to the Falklands . The last time the Light Infantry were employed in their traditional role as a Light Company attachment!

Now Company Director of my own motorcycle training school in Castleford, West Yorkshire.

Actively involved in charity fund raising for Yorkshire Air Ambulance and National Association for Bikers with a Disability (NABD)
Gary Sugget -Bugler - EX RGJ/7LI/Rifles

I joined 1 RGJ who were in the Falklands. I did many bugling jobs such as Royal wembley pageant, Earls court where I had to perform in front of the majority of the royal family. As well as the Bath and west show Shrewsbury flower show to mention but a small fraction of massed band and bugle jobs. After tours of Northern Ireland, Kenya, Germany to name but a few I left the army in 1988. I served with 7 L.I. in chester le street.

I am a member of the T.A. in Bishop Auckland which is D company the rifles. I am the current bugle major.

Participated in the T.A. 100 where I was involved in three fanfares to welcome the dignitorys. I am now available to hire as Bugler for functions and events.

Light Infantry Association On Line Branch and Light Infantry Reunited

I joined as a Junior Leader in 1970 at Oswestry and was posted to 1 LI in Lemgo in Jan73, I served in Rifle Platoons and the Mortars as well as a spell at Shrewsbury teaching Juniors.

Eventually I applied for Pilot Training and transferred to the Army Air Corps in 82 serving as a Gazelle and Lynx pilot. Left the service as a WO2 in 1995 after almost 25 years. I served in the UK, Germany, N Ireland, Hong Kong, Cyprus, Portugal, Belize and Canada and was awarded the British Empire Medal in the Queens Birthday Honours list 1986.

I am proud and honoured to represent the Association as the Reunion Representative.
